What if a student or parent wants an individual appointment right now with their counselor to go over scheduling or future plans?
Every student and every parent has the opportunity to meet with their counselor during their corresponding CCRP (college and career readiness plan) meetings to go over their plans for high school and beyond. This year’s meetings are tentatively scheduled as follows:
9th grade Individual CCR meetings Sept - October 2019 Counselors Offices
10th grade small group CCR meetings February 2020 Sophomore English Classes
11th grade Individual CCR meetings Nov 2019 - Jan 2020 Counselor Offices
12th grade CCR meetings September 2019 Multiple Locations
Please note: Time does not allow, especially at the beginning of the school year, the opportunity to meet individually with counselors. Students and parents are encouraged to pay close attention to their graduation requirements tab on skyward and search the information on the school website under student center for answers to specific questions. After the term has started, feel free to call (801) 826-6420 to make an appointment with your counselor, if needed.
What if a student wants a ‘non-traditional’ class(es)?
- Teacher’s aide is a pass/fail class that earns elective credit.
- Once school starts, pick up an aide form from the preferred teacher (or click here to download it) and return it to Debbie Clark in the Student Center within the first three days of the semester. Ms. Clark will drop the class currently in the aide period and add teacher aide to your schedule. Please note: Most teachers are only allowed 2 aides per semester and therefore have only 2 forms available.
- Ed release is released time from school for other pursuits (i.e. college class, online class, specialized training, etc.)
- Email your counselor to go over a specific ed release plan for your schedule.
- Starting 5 days before the beginning of the semester, pick up an ed release form from the secretary Kathie Kern or your assigned counselor in the student center. You can also download and print the Ed Release form.
- Completely fill out the front side and the parent and student signatures. Return the ed release form to Kathie Kern or your assigned counselor in the student center. Your counselor will add the ed release period(s) to your schedule once it is approved.
- Ed release can only be added to a schedule within the first 10 days of the semester or quarter.
- During ed release students are not allowed to remain on campus.
- Work release is a pass/fail class available to Juniors (up to 2 periods per semester) and Seniors (up to 4 periods per semester) for elective credit.
- Students must be legally employed and receive an official payroll check.
- Students must work 45 hours per quarter for EACH period of work release.
- Before the beginning of the quarter, pick up a work release packet from Kathie Kern or your assigned counselor in the student center. You can also download the forms on the Work Release page.
- Return the worksite agreement and the activity authorization to Mr. Spaulding in room PA-107 for approval. Mr. Spaulding will let your assigned counselor know when your paperwork has been returned. Your counselor will then add work release to your schedule ONLY after these steps have been followed.
- During work release students are not allowed to remain on campus.
- Certain sports teams have athletic classes during the school day, i.e. basketball, soccer, baseball, etc. These courses are named as “ath/basketball” and so on. A 10th–12th grade student who is interested in trying out for a sports team is welcome to add the corresponding class to their schedule. Please note: If you add the class and DON’T make the team, you will be moved into another available PE class.
- If a student is interested in an audition class where auditions have already passed, it is the student’s responsibility to secure written communication from the teacher or advisor and pass it along to the counselor for that specific schedule change. A list of updated teachers and advisors can be found on the school’s website.
What if a student is registered for the wrong class or the wrong level of class?

What is arena scheduling?
- Skyward arena scheduling empowers parents and students with the ability to adjust their own class schedule.
When is the arena scheduling window open?
- For your convenience in planning, the master schedule will be available for viewing in Skyward under arena scheduling starting on Thursday, August 1st. Online registration must be completed prior to viewing schedule in Skyward.
- Seniors: Your open window for scheduling is Saturday, August 3rd @ 8:00 AM – Monday, August 5th @ 11:00 PM
- Freshman-Seniors: Your open window for scheduling is Tuesday, August 6th @ 8:00 AM- Sunday, August 11th @ 11:00 PM
How does a student use arena scheduling?
- Login to Skyward Family Access.
- Click on the “Arena Scheduling” link. Select school year under the student name.
- Select Search Option(s) and then click on the “Apply Filter” button. Classes can be searched by period, subject or teacher. (The first several classes are displayed. To see the next several classes, click on the “Page Forward” buttons.)
- To add a class, click on the “Add” link. If there are seats available for a class then an “Add” link will appear. If there are not seats available, you will not see the “Add” link and the class is full. Under “Term”, classes will appear as first semester “S1,” second semester “S2,” or year-long “Y.”
- Click on “Selected Classes” next to student’s name to review and print the schedule. To remove a class, click on the class description link and then click on the “Yes” button to confirm.
What if a student wants to make a schedule change after arena scheduling is closed?
Every student must have a full schedule when school starts on August 19th - unless you are completing paperwork for Work Release or Education Release and have emailed your counselor with these plans.
If students have left ‘holes’ in their schedule after 11 pm on August 11th and have not emailed their counselor with their reasons, their schedule will be filled automatically – EVEN if that involves moving other classes around.
If, after attending one day of class (an A day and a B day), a student is unhappy with their current schedule, they have the option to stand in line at the Student Center on the afternoon of first B day (Tuesday, August 20th) starting at 2:30pm or in the morning of the second A day (Wednesday, August 21st) starting at 6:30 am. Students must be in line on Tuesday by 3:30 pm and on Wednesday by 7:30 am. At that time they can see if other scheduling options are available.
This option will cost $5 and is the only opportunity to change their schedule for this semester.
How do I change my second semester classes?
Students will have an opportunity to make second semester schedule changes right before the second semester begins. During the Course Request window, students are only able to fill holes in their schedules and/or change semester classes. Full-year classes will not be able to change.
Other schedule changes may be made during the first 10 days of a semester ONLY for the following reasons and ONLY based on availability:
- Academic misplacement i.e. student has chosen the wrong level of class or has chosen a class without meeting the pre-requisite
- Program change i.e. student has been accepted into an audition or try out class
- Missing an academic class i.e. student is missing a core class such as English, History, Math or Science
- Missing a graduation requirement i.e. a senior student is missing a course necessary to graduate in the upcoming school year or a junior student is missing US History
- Adding Education Release, Work Release, or Tech Center
- A different teacher is preferred
- The class is perceived by the student to be unappealing
- Switching from one class to another
- Switching to a different lunch
- Switching classes to have classes with friends
