Utah Boys State 2023
The Boys State program is sponsored by the American Legion in each respective state of the country to supplement high school civics instruction. This year’s class will be conducted entirely online. The core of the program is Weber State University’s (WSU) online course, National American Government. By completing this WSU course you will be awarded three semester hours of college credit. The other elements of the program will be accessed on the Boys State website where you will be able to review/listen to various modules (guest speakers). And, during June participate in elections for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and two State Senators. Note: In order to graduate from Boys State 2023 you must participate in and complete all elements of the program.
Eligibility: You must be a high school junior, have at least one semester of eligibility remaining as a senior (fall of 2023) and carry a 2.0 GPA.
Registration for 2024 will be available on March 1 and continue through May 15, 2024. Opening date to begin taking the course is June 1, 2024. On June 1st, there will be a Zoom meeting with all participants at 7:00 PM. General election date is June 18, 2024. Course completion (latest date) is July 31, 2024. The cost for this session is $150.

Utah Girls State 2024
Application Period for Girls State is now closed.
The Girls State program is sponsored by the American Legion in each respective state of the country. During this week-long summer event, 250-300 selected delegates create and operate city, county and state governments, while developing leadership skills and an appreciation of their rights as a citizen. Participants run for office, learn public speaking skills, create and write legislation, and actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government.
This year Girls State will be virtual. It will take place on June 7 - 11, 2024. The cost for the virtual session is $150.
Benefits: Besides getting to know wonderful girls from all over the state and gaining an amazing understanding of government, you will be eligible to receive 3 hours of Political Science 2920 Civic Engagement credits from Weber State
University. Because the university understands and appreciates the caliber of girls who attend, they will also grant
numerous scholarship waivers toward attendance at WSU, for instance Samsung Electronics offers a scholarship to
students who have participated in Girls State or Boys State.
Eligibility and Selection: Limited to Utah high school girls who have just completed their junior year and who will be returning to school for your senior year. The selection process is handled by the members of the American Legion Auxiliary who will interview each applicant. You will be selected based on scholastic, leadership, and service accomplishments and by
