College Credit in High School: Advanced Placement & Concurrent Enrollment
Advanced Placement
Advanced Placement, or AP, are college-level courses taken in high school that offer college, as well as high school, credit. High school credit is given to students who pass the class (similar to any other high school course). College credit, however, is granted only if students score well on their AP Exam which is given each May. These classes are more rigorous than courses that do not offer college credit. The best source of information on AP is their website. Go to apstudent.collegeboard.org to learn everything you need to know about AP classes and exams.

Concurrent Enrollment
Concurrent Enrollment courses are college courses taken in high school that offer college, as well as high school, credit. High school credit is given to students who pass the class (similar to any other high school course). College credit, however, is earned only if students earn a "C" in the class. Because these classes are actual college courses, they are more rigorous then courses that do not offer college credit. Students who take concurrent enrollment classes also earn grades and credit that will appear on a college transcript. Most of the courses offered at Corner Canyon offer college credit through Salt Lake Community College.

Courses taken at the CTEC are college courses taken off-campus at the tech center in Sandy. These courses, offered to juniors and seniors only, offer college as well as high school credit when taken by students who are enrolled in high school. High school credit is given to students who pass the class (similar to any other high school course). College credit, however, is earned only if students earn a "C" in the class. Because these classes are actual college courses, they are more rigorous than courses that do not offer college credit. Students who take classes at CTEC also earn grades and credit that will appear on a college transcript.
There are a number of programs available at CTEC - Please talk with your counselor or visit their website for more information: canyonstech.org Phone: 801-826-6441 Email: Benjamin.Poulsen@canyonsdistrict.org |
